Causes of a Dead Tooth

A dead or non-vital tooth occurs when blood flow to the tooth ceases. There are a number of reasons why this happens and ways to avoid the problem.

The most common causes of a dead tooth are:

  • Tooth decay
  • Tooth trauma
  • Improper dental care

Tooth trauma from an accident is unavoidable but it is possible to minimise the risk of a dead tooth by looking after your teeth properly.
